Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of children from birth to adolescence. It is a discipline of great importance for health care in the infancy stage, contributing to the complete growth and development of children, diminishing the impact caused by the sequels and complications of diverse disorders acquired in childhood.

In the case of congenital diseases, paediatrics helps to improve the quality of life of affected children, limit the progress of the disease and its consequences for health, and even develop the child’s potential despite the limitations inherent in the disease.

Pediatrics is one of the branches of medicine with the greatest focus on prevention. Pediatric doctors monitor the process of growth and development of children. They do this by determining parameters such as height, weight and head circumference measurement, which are monitored in comparison to the expected values for the child’s age. This allows for the timely identification of alterations in the child’s development that will lead to the timely investigation of their causes.

Another important preventive health plan carried out by pediatricians is vaccination. Vaccines give children the opportunity to come into contact with inactive microorganism fragments or particles so that their immune system recognizes them and produces antibodies. This way, when the germ comes into contact with the body again, the child will already be prepared to attack and prevent the development of the severe form of the disease.
