One of the biggest concerns of parents is the health of their child, in which the pediatrician exercises an essential task in the proper development. Paediatric care allows the prevention of harmful habits in young people, such as smoking or obesity, according to the Valencian Society of Paediatrics (SVP), since childhood and adolescence are the most decisive stages of life in which early prevention is essential for good health in the future.
The health care of the youngest is of tremendous importance, hence pediatric check-ups are also important. Different reasons come together. Firstly, it is the time when their immune protection develops, changing habits, making the leap from a more protected environment such as the home to day care centres or schools, where contact with other children and adults multiplies.
But also, once this first stage is over, the changes do not stop, the child’s development takes place in a process that does not stop until the end of adolescence. All this requires a correct continuous follow-up by the paediatrician. Beyond the visits that are made when the child is sick, periodic check-ups are fundamental when it comes to prevention and care of the child’s health.
The minimum individualized visits will be the following: newborn; one month of life, to see the family adaptation; two months, first vaccines; 4 months, development of interest; 6 months, complementary feeding; 12 months, the first steps; 18 months, little explorer; 24 months, language; between 3 and 4 years, schooling; 6 years, socialization; between 8 and 10 years, pre-adolescence; and between 12 and 14 years, adolescence.
